ABOUT
THESE BOOKS
The books sold here are my personal classroom library collection.
Most of them were purchased brand new from Scholastic or
Trumpet Books Clubs, a few from Borders Books. Most were
purchased between 1990 and 2001. Since then they have been
stored in banker boxes.
Most are in gently used or like new condition as they were
collected but never used in a classroom setting. If the book
condition is vintage or worn, then it is specifically noted
in the description. If there has been any wear (warp) to
the book from storage, I will note so in the description.
The covers are in brilliant like new condition due to the
lamination.
Here are some generalizations that you need to be aware
of.
PICTURE
BOOKS:
* Most of the softcovers have been laminated (the covers)
with a library grade clear laminating film
* Some of them have a genre coding sticker on bottom of
binding; you can remove this if you like
* Some of them have a library grade due date form and check
out card/check out sleeve taped to the inside cover
* Most of these books were used in my own home only (by
my own children)
CHAPTER
BOOKS & CHILDREN'S MAGAZINES:
* Most of the softcovers have been laminated (the covers)
with a library grade clear laminating film
* Most of them have a genre coding sticker taped on bottom
of binding (over lamination); you can remove this if you
like
* Most of them have a library grade due date form and check
out card/check out sleeve taped to the inside cover
* Most of these books were never used at all; some of them
were used in a 4-8th grade multi-grade classroom and/or
a 5th grade classroom library for up to three years total;
a few of them are vintage copies purchased from yard sales
and such
* Regarding the magazines, the entire magazine is laminated
If you would like to purchase laminating film for covers,
due date slips, or check out sleeves like I have used on
these books, visit Gaylord
Brothers library supplies.
GENRE
CODING:
All of the books that I have for sale have been stickered
by genres. If you are going to use this system in your classroom
library then I suggest that you make a 8.5 x 11" guide
sheet to be kept in the library that shows all the colors
of stickers that you are using and what each color stands
for. See the table below for my sticker coding system. I
used the Avery brand mini round stickers which can be purchased
from office supply stores such as OfficeMax.
If you need a lesson on genre classification, please read
this page. It consists
of my notes from a graduate level course on childrens literature
that I used as the starting point for a Masters thesis on
the use of a classroom library in a literature-based multi-age
classroom.
